Valentines – the homemade kind about the head out all over the US and into Canada for a homeschool Valentine exchange.  I’m beginning to think perhaps I should have chosen a slightly easier design.

And of course, bread.  The good kind with the blistery crust that makes this highly satisfying crunching sound as you slice through it.  Thank you, Peter Reinhart.  How do I love you?  Let me count the ways…

  1. OMGoodness….your bread looks FABULOUS! (I’m not in the least bit envious;)

    • Thanks! I swear by Peter Reinhart – I’ve used several recipes out of two of his books so far and have been extremely happy with them every time. They’re fairly easy recipes and his delayed ferment methods make for fairly speedy bread baking.

This recipe is for his French Bread. You let the dough rise for a bit on the counter, shape the loaves, and then let them do the rest in the fridge. It was supposed to give the crust that distinctive blistered look. I was tickled pink when the loaves came out of the oven!
